Sounds like you are missing your USB 2 drivers, though if you have Windows XP they should be automatically installed. I think the USB 2 drivers are also on your Master CD that came with your computer.
Well, first I realized my card slot and CD/DVD drive are both on the left side of my notebook and the card slot is towards the front. So when you run the three pronged cord toward the back it gets in the way when trying to switch discs,...

Just remember that the computer/hub/router/modem, etc. that you are going to connect too will also have to have wireless capabilities or you will have a wireless connection to nothing.
I'm pretty sure the flicker thing is a refresh problem. My friend had the same problem a long time ago and we managed to fix it but I can't remember how. I know what you mean about not being able to change the refresh rate, but I think...
I could be wrong, but I think the 6.14 number is the real driver version number of the ATI driver, while the 8.05 is the number for Alienware's version of that driver.
ati2evxx.exe is not necessary--I turned this off and never had a problem, I think it is only for assigning ATI hotkeys which I have never heard of anyone actually doing. spoolsv.exe is also only needed if you have a printer.
If you burn it to a CD then the you should be able to access whatever is on the CD in a normal way.
