For desktops, its good to do a blob since heatsink is large and heavy enough to spread the thermal paste.
For notebooks, heatsink may not be enough to spread the thermal paste, so its good to spread.

You can't use it at 800Mhz, it will automatically clock to 667Mhz.
Memory controller still supports upto 667Mhz on Crestline chipsets (Santa Rosa platform).
Get the cheapest one. Since we can't overclock, quality doesn't really matter. They will all run the same as long as its compatible and in good working condition.
