You can't upgrade via Express Upgrade, it is for new systems purchased on or after October 24th. You have to buy a full or upgrade version when Vista is released on January 2007 (if it doesn't get delayed).
Everest 2.20 is quite old. Try with a newer version or with CPU-Z.
Try using CPU-Z 1.37.
Yes, its a better card than 6800U but you can't install a non-gtx 7800 in 9300.

Having an ATI card has nothing to do with the display identifier. I have an X1400 currently and can see identifier LPL0000 just fine. Go to Device Manager > Monitors > Plug and Play Monitor > Properties > Details, in there...
Why does it say "M1210" in the 9400/E1705 BIOS page?
My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Performance Settings > Check "Use Drop Shadows for icon labels on the desktop" or just click on "Adjust for best appearance".
