It probably is a video chip issue which could only be fixed with a motherboard replacement. You should keep the fans and the heat sink free of dust and allow for ventilation of the fan areas to lessen the artifacting.

you need drivers specific to a laptop. The one's you downloaded are for a desktop more than likely. Go to laptopvideo2go's website and download the drivers specific for windows xp or windows vista for the 7950GTX.

I don't think the nVidia drivers are modified for laptops. Try going to http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ and get their nVidia drivers for vista. That's what I'm using for the 7950 GTX and they work fine. The drivers are 7.15.10.9759.

I did a quick format with Vista Home Premium and reinstalled Win XP. I just rebooted with the Win XP CD in the optical drive. Everything went fine.
