Not really sure what it is. Though since it sounds quite serious, I think you should contact Gateway's technical support and have it take a look. Hope that your M505 is still within its warranty period.

The problem is that the CD-Drive on the M505X/XL is a slot loading drive. I don't see the emergency eject hole that is on most tray drive. I guess you have to refer to Gateway Support.
I had already referred to the program in my previous post, its name is "driver cleaner"... http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/
I have finished the game and it ran fine on my M505X. Maybe you should try to use driver cleaner to clean out your video driver and then reinstall it.
