I replaced my own Audio Board (DJ) many months ago, thanks to an Asus RMA, and it's been working fine since. And yes, I use NHC and Speedfan (although I still find heat and fan noise to be the achilles heel of this laptop).
I went the same route as phatsew, through Asus, doing the replacement myself. It was a better customer service experience than I expected. The disassembly requires patience and attention to detail, and might not be for everyone. I do...
I did it on mine and didn't find it too difficult, but it depends on your familiarity with disassembling laptops. I had to ask about routing the antenna wire, but once I figured it out, it was easy. Also, I had read somewhere that the...
I've noticed a few folks have developed scripts for special buttons and Fn button combinations on the Z71V. Anyone nice willing to try that for the Z70V(A)? Tx.
I had the headphone jack/speaker cutoff issue with my Z70V (Eddie, you might remember me). I personally replaced my entire audio board, thanks to Asus, who sent me a replacement in exchange for my old one. Given what people are saying...
Been a while in this forum, but FYI, I got a replacement audio board directly from Asus (who, believe it or not, swear it would've cost only $20 without an exchange). I swapped it out myself. I'm not advising anyone else to do it this...
PCLinuxOS 9.2 works very well out of the box. I'm fiddilng with bluetooth right now, but you can download with ATI drivers preconfigured and a majority of things work - wireless, sound, screen resolution, touchpad. It's probably the best...
I have this problem, and it's reported by others in various forums. Contact your reseller and/or Asus. Only solution I've heard of is to replace the audio board. It's NOT a software problem.
You may be right, Eddie, but when looking around for complaints about this problem (and not knowing what search terms to use), I saw lots of postings about crackling and intermittent sound problems. I wonder whether Asus sourced a batch...
Too bad we might go through replacing audio boards to have the same problem develop again. It'd be nice if Asus figured out what's going wrong with the boards and then came up with a good fix. Anyone know who makes these boards? Is it Asus?
