If weight's really your biggest concern, you may want to reconsider the Sager decision. I LOVE my Sager, and would recommend them to anyone, but one thing Sagers are _not_ is lightweight.
Funny, every review I've seen of the 4780 mentions how warm they get (mine included). Though mine's been running all day and it's only warm -- I wouldn't call it hot.

Easy fix: Delete the .gnome (or .gnome2, or both, depending on your version) directories under your home directory outside of GNOME, then go back in. That'll reset GNOME back to defaults.
