If your laptop is covered under warranty, you do not have to play "dumb". Just take it to Toshiba repair center and say that it is dead. That's it. They will not ask a lot of questions, believe me.

I would suspect the memory first, not the hard drive. If it would be just a hard drive, you would get some video. Try to reseat the memory module. Try to connect to an external monitor and see if you can get video there.
