I know when I quickly tap the white switch with my finger,the screen goes off an on, the response would indicate a hardware trigger. What happens when you tap yours? Try tapping it when it's booting up and posting.

well, if DOS has no way to capture the close lid event, then nothing would happen and it would run as is. Closing the lid would tirgger the switch that turns off the lcd though. Have you checked the bios?
