This is something that too many people dont realise. If you are spraying your fan areas with compressed air, DO NOT spin the fan up...stick something in there to stop it spinning. Spinning it too fast can damage it beyond repair.
Vista does work...problems are rare now, and are usually attributed to 3rd party driver or software issues. I can understand the lack of 3D performance some people have, but in general, people whinge about Vista without even trying it...

I would have stuck to 32-bit...there's bugger all difference in performance and the extra hassle for unsupported programs/drivers just isn't worth it... EDIT: Just reread your post that you aren't going to install it ATM...but I would...

Yea...that's been discussed quite a few times with those settings impacting performance...more so when the 9300/9400 were mainstream.
i8k won't let you do that, it gives a warning and doesnt let you keep those settings.

I would have thought if shaking the laptop gets it back to normal, then it would be somehtng like a loose cable or connector. I'd be opening it up and checking all the connections on the GPU and display. It's only 10 minutes work.
