Kite: What speed is your cable connection going to be? I cant say how much faster it will be if you dont say anything about its speed as there are differnt speeds available, but, none are higher than 11Mbps so you will be ok with that...

53Mb, 43Mb, 22Mb, 11Mb and 1Mb
All the wireless options have a highest speed they can go and then the speed drops the further away from the Wireless point you are, though most are only 22Mb or 11Mb.

The replicator would as you said, only have ports that the laptop already has, except it could have, say serial aswell, but it couldnt have an RJ-11 unless it had a modem bulit in, same for RJ-45.
