hey all... I am posting this in general as it is meant to solve a specific linux problem which requires help from more than the current linux base we have here and also the answer is not linux specific I have been workin on...
ok... I havent bothered to set up my pcmcia as I have no need for it on my machine... so, what I am saying is stabbing in the dark from my limited experience.. What I can say is, I take it pcmcia-cs is a driver database of card...
I would suggest checking out the vmware site... but I wuld say it i a compatability issue with xfree and vmware... my suggestion is to try out the new vmware 4.0 beta anyway... it's gonna have more features and is likely to work better...
Modules are compiled and installed by gentoo when you are doing a new kernel compile... What I would recommend doing is checking your kernel config... make sure you have the module you need selected... then do the following to remake...
Already tried mandrake 9.1rc3 (I think it's 3...) which apparently pretty much was the final release. It's good if you want a quick easy install with tonnes of apps... but I prefer to customise IMO, better than RH

My current view is that Xfree are only but too willing to support nVidia... but when I comes to ATI, we're loosing out... The ATI drivers provided for linux are literally useless comparing to their windows equilavent in most cases......
