Banias had 2 years, Dothan has 1.5 years. Life is short for Dual Core, less than a year, then it comes the Meron. Perhaps its not cost effective for Dell to have so manay models with a life span of less than a year.

Look at GenTecPC's picture: Meron has 2 versions, one for NAPA Platform with 667FSB and one for Santa Rosa which has 800FSB!

For college work, why Meron? For gaming with future games? I would say Dothan is far already more than sufficient for college work!
