Id advise keeping it off and let it completely dry out. Remove the battery during the drying.
Sounds like it could possibly be a bad jack (its confused whether a jack is in or not). Have you tried reinstalling windows?
I would do what Yoob suggested. A lot of times if they didn't send you a OS disk and you have virus/adware problems they will send you your XP OS disk. They may charge you though so be prepared.
I think I have this problem too. Ever since I updated the entire machine and put 18k on it, the fans have never responded to heat ie- they dont speed up, they are stuck on one speed setting - low. Have you tried hitting fn+Z? This is...
Same errors and symptoms. Dell Support originally told me it was a motherboard issue but an XPS support agent actually believes its an AC Adapter failure. I have a replacement 130W on the way, we'll see how that goes.
Just did some tests and it does throttle up to 2Ghz on battery??
It does charge though, could it really be the power supply?
Recently, my XPS M170 has been running very slow while plugged in to AC power. The speed has throttled down to 667Mhz via 111MHz Bus speed on a 6x multiplier. When running on battery power, it throttles up to the standard 800MHz battery...
Blow out the dust. If you want, you can also take the thing apart and try to throughoughly clean it. If it doesn't work, call dell. Sounds like the fan may be going bad.
No problems, nothing noticeable, after all, MCE is XP Pro with about 15MB extra memory usage.
