Thanks for the replies and the reason I have been given is that the Inspiron 9300 BIOS has some sort of built in size limit for the hard drive.

Does it work with other discs? And do you have a spare drive lying around, try it and see what the deal is. oh and btw what sized hard drive do you have in your 9300?
