I got the transcend 1 GB stick in mine and no problems yet. Best of all, it's cheap

Did you by chance ever do any of the heat mods that very possibly could have extended the life you your laptop? I know the common complaint of the 8600 is that the vid card runs soooooo hot (100C+).

Somehome my 8600's front LCD bezel cracked on the side and I am hoping someone out there has one that is in excellent shape. Please let me know.
