I did almost the exact same thing. Go run out and buy Partition Magic. They have an undelete feature that saved my life. The best $80 I ever spent.
It's the TV that limits you to 640X480. If you only got a monitor out you can buy a firewire breakout box to hook up your TV. But I hook up my old pc to my TV too and the only thing it's good for is watching DVDs or playing vid games.
