Now I installed the 3309 BIOS update which didn't help.
After that I updated the LAN eeprom, this apparently helped. The update is pretty easy to do, every step is described on the website.
Pretty strange since it had worked perfectly...

this morning I noticed that my 8204 didn't go into standby correctly last night, it loaded windows and the battery was drained.
I've used 100mbit lan without problems for a week but today packets started dropping, espcially on...
I'm still using the standard installation and would probably reinstall from the backup disc it burns after first boot.
There is definately some stuff in the task bar but so far it didn't do anything annoying. You might need most of it...
I had a 8106 and now I got a 8204. I don't see anything that got worse.
3D- and cpu-speed improved quite a bit, temperatures seem to be lower and they doubled the ram.
The x700 got about 2700 pts in 3dmark 05, the x1600 over 4100...
I get something too (while running the car demo), it's so weak that I only really hear it, if I put my ear near to the keyboard though.
Unplugging from AC helped, turning 3D speed down to medium apparently didn't.
