Don't want to leave you hanging without a reply. But since your laptop is already broken, couldn't you just pull the hard drive out and try it on another laptop? Hard drives are very easy to remove, just 2 to 4 screws is all it takes.
It depends on where you are at. I'm in LA. At the time I received the shipping confirmation, I received the laptop within 24 hours via Fedex. That was the free shipping option.
Since you are playing the demo, try downloading the demo off the internet. It may take awhile but at least that will elimate your DVD problem.
Not the same exact model but I was able to run RON and AOE3 on my DV4000. Your laptop has more horsepower than my, don't see any reason why it shouldn't.
I think you better have HP check your laptop out. I have a DV4000, don't know if its exactly or the same as V4000. It has a X700 inside as well. I was able to clock in 6 hours of Oblivion Elder Scroll with medium to high settings. ...

Still re-installiing my OS today. Believe it or not, both Newegg (New Jersey) and HP (CHina), shipped at the same time. I got my Newegg stuff one business day after my laptop.
Run msconfig and click on the startup tab. Uncheck the s4setup.exe from there. Also run at least two different kind of spyware to make you don't have any spywere hidden on your machine. Be sure to use at least two different type. ...
Hmm, don't know about 4200 to 5400. I always get the 7200. They are like $10 more usually.
