He man I have one and yes all the base is some type of metal and the cover si aluminium witch make it very stif witch is a good thing. As for bad LCD well it's realy not shure what you are going to get I got 2 one was not so grate it...

Just going by elimination that's all the moniters will show in you device manager. you should have like 3 or 4. one should be plug and play.

I had a 7800GTX in my 1705 never tried the expernal DVI thow. It mais sound stupide but when you instaled the drivers did it install 3 device/moniters if so is the twinview on or off you can check all thoses from the display setting....
