No trick that I know of... I'd have thought that it would only show open ports. I use Port 6... I do get the "port in use" error every now and then, and I need to reboot before it will work. But, that's intermittent. It works...
Maybe it's there in anticipation of a Bluetooth keyboard? That's the only reason I can think of for the Bluetooth software to provide that sort of functionality...
I suppose we'll never rid ourselves of the screen issue... For some people, it's relevant, for others (like myself) it's not. My 8204 is the best system I've yet owned (and, I've owned 10 notebooks in the last 6 years), an opinion I base...
I have the Wenger Patriot wheeled bag, which includes a smaller notebook case (which also lists as suited for 15/15.5" notebooks) and my 8204 fits perfectly. Snug, but not _too_ snug.
I've been having great luck with all of the Acer utilities, don't feel a need to change anything at the moment...
But, if we were to lobby Acer for anything, I'd go for newer X1600 drivers...
Tay, not sure what you would find showing that the hotfix was applied, other than the various system files' time/date stamps. There's nothing in the registry, UNLESS you want to "turn off" the fix, so not finding anything in...
I agree with Falafel. This is something "heard from the distributors/dealers of ACER here in the middle Europe." Whether or not this is necessarily a trustworthy source of information is debatable.

For what it's worth, I'm not having any issues synching my Treo 650 to my 8204 via Bluetooth. Make sure that Bluetooth Serial Port is enabled and set to the same port as your Hotsynch (for Palm synchs; not sure about Blackberry)...
