I would monitor the temps of your cpu and graphics with programs such as speedfan, mobilemeter, nhc etc. Check if there is any heat issues during gaming.

Its most likely you have a different issue. Believe me a dual core even at 1Ghz will handle DVD playback without even breaking a sweat. Look at cpu usuage during DVD playback and its very small %.
