It can most likely not be recovered. If it is very important data you could send it to a professional data recovery company (which I imagine would be expensive)
I would go for the Sony, it has a bigger screen and is smaller/lighter.
I am not sure, but the Vaio should get good battery life (expecially when it is using integrated graphics - "Stamina" mode)
