Not sure about your computer, but on mine, fn-f8 toggles between the different monitor configurations. Have you tried that?

Although I'm not sure, it could be that the cpu is throttling itself down due to the heat. You should try compressed air or something to fix the heat problem and that might fix the 100% useage problem. Not sure though
