Check out the Fujitsu glossy screen models. The new Lifebook E 82xx looks very nice, spec-wise.

I'm among the happy owners of the 8204. Maybe I'm not too discriminating about screen noise and gray lines - I can barely notice what might be noise using the Nokia brightness and contrast test, and the gray lines only show up in a test...
Presbyopia ;-)
They ship them from China (or at least that's where the 15" MBP I got came from).
Working with Gentoo, eh? Going to post relevant info to http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/acer.html for us dummies who haven't gotten a linux distro to work right yet? Thanks! - Ed
Guess this is the best 15" by those criteria then: 4157 -- $2500 -- 1,66 -- Acer 8204WLMi -- 2.0 GHz Core Duo, ATI X1600 256MB, 15.4" 1680x1050, 2GB, 120GB 5400rpm, 3kg, 3h I like mine.
If you can backup everything important to you on the machine, you may be better off doing fresh install of 2K on a wiped disk. Their is clearly a lot of ME specific stuff on the computer.

I believe CLI is the ATI hot-key service. You can disable it in Administrative Tools -> Services without causing any harm. - Ed
