Well, my Acer 8204 is comparable, excepting the particularly refined aesthetics and slightly more weight. It really doesn't get hot. Too bad it doesn't have OSX. I also happen to think the MBP is a very pretty machine. - Ed

Acer 8204 I love mine, but read the other threads on it because some folks aren't happy. No CD's. There's a recovery partition and a utility to use to make a copy of the factory configuration to DVDs. You can also take snapshots...
Most stuff available for Linux can be built for OSX too. You would probably have to run the X-Server, so it wouldn't quite be native, but that's a lot of software.
If you're willing to go with the x1600, the Acer 8204 is pretty nice. But do read other people's issues with it. Mine is fine. - Ed
Just when I spout off, I stand to be corrected. ATI released a new version (8.24.8) of its Linux drivers this afternoon, and they're supposed to support the X1* family of mobile cards. Whah-hoo! Give Linux another try on the 8204 this...
