For additional programs, you might want to get iWork bundled with the machine.
And for OS X, pick up a copy of "Mac OS X: the Missing Manual" (Tiger Edition) by David Pogue.

Acer 8204, though it's just a stretch above your stated limit. I'm very happy with mine, which I've had since late Feb. Do check other threads on it so that you know what others are unhappy about with it.

I've had my hands on one that I bought for my daughter for her graduation - very nice. And you'll probably like OSX, even if you mainly use XP. If this option had been available a month ago, I'd have bought one.
Anyone know what this program is? ProcessExplorer indicates that it's associated with eRecovery. The thing is running in the background eating 50% of my CPU. Thoughts on how to get rid of it if inessential?
TIA,

MS will cut you some slack on installing/activating on a different machine, provided you convince them that the original machine is no longer being used. It generally takes a phone call.

It gets detected when you put it into the PCMCIA slot to charge, but there's no associated driver - windows is just being confused. You can ignore the exclamation point in the device manager.

Worth the price, as far as I'm concerned. But do check the other threads on the 8204, so you know what some people have had problems with. I'm a happy owner.
