I've only encountered the 9000 in recent browsings of HP's site--the Compaq R3000T and the HP zv5000 series both claim 9000 with 64MB shared--not dedicated--memory. My bad. (Though still something to keep an eye out for.)
Of those machines, I've been most impressed with what I've seen of the ABS Mayhem G1. 512MB RAM will be fine for gaming, the Pentium 4 would be preferable to Pentium M unless you plan to be running off battery a lot, and a 7200rpm HD...
The 7500 has dedicated memory, while the 9000 I believe uses shared memory. 9200 over 7500, maybe. 9600 over 7500, definitely. But 9000? I'd be dubous about making the sacrifices you're making for a shared memory solution.
Panasonic is THE high-end brand name for rugged notebooks. But they build their notebooks to be actually used in the field, so don't be surprised that they incorporate power-efficient CPU designs like Centrino.
