I use the earphone plug or the builtin speakers. The mic speaker jack is totally separate. So the mic could crap itself and the earphones not be affected at all, imho. FWIW!

Just wanted to say I'm having the same problem on my 9300. Using vent - sometimes the Mic works and sometimes it doesnt. The other audio works fine. I even swapped out mics then tried them on another computer and the mics work fine...
