If it's showing on the external monitor as well you likely have a faulty video card. When you are on your desktop....right click on the desktop and select Properties....Settings....Advanced.....Troubleshoot... move the Hardware...

The part that is circled in the above pictures isn't the SATA connector. It's hard to see from the pictures exactly what your problem is. There is only one standard sata connector regardless of device size.

Not only that but RAM is so cheap these days. If you feel at some time in the future you wish to upgrade it's pretty easy to do so. Upgrading a CPU on a notebook is not really practical for most people.

Agreed, the Gateway is a very good value. You can buy a faster machine but you will spend a lot more money and the Gateway is no slouch.
