There is no thermal pad on the GPU! There are a few "dents" on the metal plate below the keyboard, that fits over various components without thermal compond or thermal tape. The GPU is naked!
As we all know by now, there are heat issues with the Sager 8790/Clevo D870P. The weak part is the inaducate cooling of the GPU (grafic processor). The fans are all controlled via the temperature of the CPU (main processor). A cool...
The procedure is covered in both the user manual and the service manual. Everest Home Edition will show what is inside your notebook without the need for opening. In mine there is only a 512MB DDR400.
No, it did not die. My Clevo has no WLAN Card at all, that is an option in Europe.
Gigabyte have four different WLAN Cards (mini-PCI). GN-WIAG02 (108 Mbit/s), GN-WI01HT (108 Mbit/s), GN-WI01GS (54 Mbit/s) and GN-WIKG (54 Mbit/s). Will they all work in a Clevo D870P (Sager 8790)? Roger

They have corrected that misprint now!
About the thermally conducting tape or frag tape as some of you call it. 3M/Scotch has a thermally conductive tape, 9882, 9885 and 9890. Thickness are: 2, 5 and 10 mil. In mm that is: 0.054, 0.127 and 0.254. Which one to use inside...
I have now runned the SuperPI test with different settings of ClockGen. Default setings 3000/200/200/44/22, gave me 39 seconds. Underclocking to 2000/133/133/44/22 gave me 53 seconds. It seems to work!
The GPU is the weak point of the 8790 (Clevo D870P in my case). Which way is the best for downclocking? There have been a thread on the ATI Tool. After installing the lastest ATI driver (8.241.0.0) and the ATI Tool, the default...
