I'm more or less in your exact situation.... And it seems to me none of the upgrades are really worth it. Lots of cash, but no real tangible differences in performance.

In short - your warranty won't cover the new component (naturally), but the rest of the system will still be covered.

T7700 is a different socket, so no, that won't work.
T7600 is the best "standard" processor you can fit.
If you can get hold of a T7600G, it's the same but overclockable. Not found in retail though....
I have never been denied an upgrade on the phone (an upgrade of that kind, anyway). More money from me = more money to Dell.
It's one thing if the options aren't available online, but on the phone? Strange.
