It sounds like you have power saving settings enabled which turn down the power while on battery? If not, perhaps the wifi adapter is disabled? Other than that, there would be no connection between the two.
You'd be surprised at the amount of CPU time flash apps use. It sounds to me like the computer is overheating and therefore throttling the CPU? Try cleaning the heatsinks.
Go into Power Options and choose to turn off the monitor after x minutes.
