The little square box to the right of the left-hand hinge is an ambient light sensor that (if you put the screen brigthness on "auto") adjusts the LCD brightness based on the ambient light in the room. I think the whole case...

I imagine it IS related to the fact that it is te 7200 RPM model, nevertheless, it seems to be too hot.
I would appreciate hearing other peoples thoughts about how hot the drive is when they get theirs. In answer to jjfcpa: 1) I think the fit/finsh is excellent, it looks and feels professional and solid - see below 2) Weight is better...
I am quite pleased. My only concern right now is that I do not know if the hard disk is running to hot -- HDTUNE shows it at 44 degress C, and it is quite hot on the bottom left front.

I ordered a D820 on the first day that they were available (3.29), and mine went into production on Thursday the 6th, and it has been in "Boxing" for 2 or 3 days, I expect it will ship tomorrow or Wednesday
