Have you tried reseating the LCD cables? BTW, I had a similar intermittent problem with my I7000 several years ago, and it went away on its own (I didn't have time to let Dell's technicians have a look at it).

Slight ticking noises are normal. You don't need to worry, unless you hear something really abnormal, in which case you should run Dell's Diagnostics (from your HDD if you have not reformatted it, or from Dell's CD otherwise).
