I have a 3438G for testing which I bought for €850 with one year garantie up to June 2007. When the brightness is at a minimum I can see the flickering but when I turn the brihgtness above halfway up then it's not noticeable....

Which trickel charge? I don't know about your laptop but when my battery is charging the charge LED comes on. When the notebook is left on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week the battery isn't being charged. It's just sitting dormantly...
