i've used the s-video out with media center, worked great except for the screen saver coming on after the notebook sitting idle for a while hehe
id say if you had the extra cash go ahead and get the faster drive. but if not a free 100gb 5400rpm drive isnt all that bad!
the only way you will get bass in a laptop is to get a laptop with a subwoofer built in, or get some external speakers.

i've never heard of people buying a laptop for sound. my e1505 sound is alright... but i have external speakers for when im at home and have it muted when im mobile
