When you said the 'light stays on orange' is where I picked that up from. So you have a light that works (even though most of the laptop does not) when it is not plugged into the AC ?

Let us know how it turns out. It sounds like there was at least a little juice in this battery. You could have also had it tested if you knew someone with a multimeter.
