Codec here is referring to the actual chip, not a piece of software. It appears that the m1210 simply has a superior audio chip.

It appears that the m1210 has the sigmatel 9220, which is an 8-channel audio codec. Our laptops have the 9200, which is only a 2-channel codec :[

anyone can do the hacking. in fact, if you tell me the ini file your laptop uses, i'll make the hacked one for you when i have time. it'll take maybe 10 minutes at most?

I remember reading on the sigmatel site that the 9200 is a two channel sound chip. The m1210 has three audio ports and we only have two, so we can't output to more than 4 distinct speakers anyways. A quick look on dell's site showed...

haha I was messing around and I managed to get both the laptop speakers and the audio jack to output sound at the same time. Fake 4.1 surround sound anyone (using a set of desktop speakers)?
