Well i am kind of disapointed.
In europe it is with ~400€ (delivery fee included) rather expensive. Furthermore the glossy screen is a no-buy argument considering the environments in which i'd like to use this netbook.
I never knew we had comunnity-reps before this thread, whatever their function may be, so I am neutral about that.
In my opinion the forum theme is more in the way of reading here, than supporting it, but that also is no reason to leave this forum.
What bothers me more is the lack of topics about the 17' inspiron line. The inspirons are actually better covered in the other forum (which i didn't knew before this thread. )
Maybe the following link is interesting XCNuse. There is, among other interesting things, a descrition of an internal usb-hub mod on an eeepc. Maybe it can be adapted for your 1705, so you wouldn't have to lose your external usb-port.

A: 4GB, but Vista 32bit only recognizes 3.25GB. To take advantage of the full 4GB, you need to upgrade to a 64bit OS.
Vista 32bit recognizes 3.581GB of 4GB, if you have a graphic card with only 256mb ram, like the dells version of the 8600M.
I experimentet a little bit with the webcam in my 1720.
I can get about 26fps in full sunlight. Unfornately the cheap screen without antireflex coating, which dell advertises as truelife -"upgrade" turns in a perfect mirror under these light conditions. In my usual environment I get about 8-10fps.
So... the webcam is pretty much useles crap under normal circumstances.
Sync gets a little bit better if you go to your webcam console and turn down the option backgroundlight....
The main difference ist energy-efficiency.
The 130w model is not as energy-efficient with a 90W notebook as 90w power brick with a 90w notebook.
But if you have an additional desktop pc it is probably fare worse matched with its psu than a 90w notebook with a 130w psu. So not really worth worrying to mutch.
