MrEvil, he wasn't referring to the CPU, he was referring to the GPU, which has a black sticker thing that surrounds the core. If you remove the thick blue pad that was on the Northbridge, there will be a gap between it and the heatsink....
Don't remove the black thing. I'd assume that it's just a protective cover to prevent any clumsy techs from screwing up the application of the thermal pads, but leave it there anyways. You only need to clean the raised part in the center.
I fail to see how you have 20 C load temps if I8kfangui is showing 34/40 C idling.

These hard drives are SATA. The E1705 uses SATA. Just take out your old hard drive, stick either of these in, or any other SATA150 notebook drive for that matter.
Try completely uninstalling the drivers and re-installing Dell's drivers again. I haven't had this issue since I re-installed Dell's drivers.
