Simple, a normal desktop system also stops the POST when it doesn't detect a working videocard (well, depending on the system and the bios settings obviously).
Maybe want to try a hot swap? (works for bios chips)

Indeed, tested myself. There IS a 1 or 2 second delay, but only when using the internal speakers as passthrough.
Over headphones the sound is crystal clear.
