I am using the downloaded version so I cannot help you on that. It doesn't sound normal though. I imagine you don't have this issues with other DVD's

the turrets -use a guass rifle. fire at the center when they open. TAC cannon is for destroying the singularity guns after all the turrets are detroyed (the huge arms)
