Boot from your Windows install CD and go into the rescue console. Run "fixmbr", that should solve your problem.

If all it's doing is web browsing and simple tasks, that should work okay. If you're hoping to game like that, not a chance. Check NewEgg, there are many LCD monitors for under $200.
Ubuntu works fine with my Intel 3945 wireless adapter.
Using that kind of setup will get you a pretty poor quality image. You're not going to be able to use your laptop display as a true external monitor.
