Region is determined by the FIRMWARE in the drive. I belive with DVD Decrypter (and probally many others) you can change it to region free. Keep in mind though you can only change the region 5 times before it locks you from changing...

I could see how maybe changing the channel would make a difference but why would changing from G to B do anything? They both opperate on the 2.4Ghz frequency.
