I had this same dilemma when I received my e1705 2 weeks ago, I decided to just remove the bloatware and reg clean the entries. Some of the Dell programs I wanted to keep, just to see what they did. So this was the best way for me.
The reason why they tax you is because... The government (state and city)is mad that they cant tax on internet-interstate purchases if the shipping company doesn't have a physical entity in the receiving state... there is legislation...

I just put the same memory in my 1705, its running in dual channel mode, no problem, I was thinking of getting the memory from newegg but that savings is a rebate not instant, and newegg taxes me here in NJ, so I went with monarch...
Congrats on your purchase, you are going to love it. one thing is I would have skimped on the 2gb from dell and got it with 512mb, then buy the 2gb DIMM from newegg or monarch computers, to save some bucks.
