Mac powerbooks/ibooks doesn't have an inexpensive way to get 5.1. Both M-audio and Griffin have external multichannel devices that are Mac compatible.

Battery life is not good...its merely decent. I get a good 2 hours with full brightness, wireless, and music going...thats not even enough for a decent movie.
Just make sure what you do is...
1. Yes you can watch divx, avi, mpg. Mplayer OSX and VLC do it just fine. But with pc, you have more control over them. If you just want to watch, then mac will get the job done.
2. Personally, I think the mac has the best software...
