Charivari, Very good review. i have the exact same rig and pretty much agree with your critique. Still wonder why the i model get's a reported 1 hour better battery life. So far nobody seems to have an answer.

Also agree. Have the 1680 X 1050 and it works just fine.

Why the 1 hour difference in battery life?

i got about 3 hours surfing the web. Were you using the standard battery or the 9 cell? Wonder why the i model gets 1 hour more battery life.

Roswell, Have you tried changing the graphics switch on the front to the standard intel card? i did and the fan came on much less and the palm rest was only a little warm.

Played with my Area 51 m5500 all weekend. The fan noise is noticable but not objectionable on my unit. Does not run all the time even when i was playing Doom3. It does get warm on the right side of the palm rest and the air coiming out...
