Just to reiterate, the Atheros driver cannot be present/loaded/or installed on the laptop when you try the ground connection. It causes an issue with Cisco VPN if it's loaded at all, even if the hardware is disabled in device manager.

I have the same config, marker (I am currently using wired mouse/keyboard in my desktop setup, but carry a bluetooth keyboard/mouse for when I am mobile). I haven't tried enabling blue tooth yet, but I'll give it a shot tonight.
