Very good info. As I know, Win2k isn't as good as XP for laptop. One of the reason is bad PowerManagement. I had problem even on my desktop that Win2K cannot switch to power saving mode. Also, some application will interfere with OS...

It seems video RAM problem to me. Usually Windows only use a very small amount of video RAM for 2D display. But if you have, say, some bad memory block in upper address, the 3D functionality in DirectX would use those upper addressed...
